Help facilitate the creation and implementation of quality mental health curriculum in New York City!
The NSNS-NYC curriculum is currently on track to center on the following five areas of mental health:
1. The Genetic Aspect of Health
2. Navigating School and Stress
3. Bullying and Emotional Abuse
4. Compassionate Action and Civic Engagement as Wellness Tools
5. Mental Health in a New and Changing World
Some of the core tasks of NSNS-NYC are expected to be:
1. Gathering information from the general public, both on and offline, about what kinds of experiences people have had with the above areas of health and what people would personally want to see included in a final curriculum on these topics.
2. Fundraising for different aspects of the project, such as organizing public events and forums, hiring design talent for promotional materials and this website, and attracting experts and individuals with previous experience writing curriculum for schools.
3. Deliberately entering quality content onto this forum to boost visibility and attractiveness to visitors.
4. Facilitating the creation of a quality mental health curriculum that takes into consideration the input from the general public as well as the expertise and experience of relevant professionals.
5. Creating and executing a pilot program.
6. (If the pilot works) mobilizing people to advocate for the implementation of the curriculum in NYC public schools.
Some questions we will likely be wrestling with:
How can we get people in the city involved with and excited about the process of creating a popularly informed mental health curriculum? How can we make sure to bring a variety of perspectives into the conversation? How can we seek out help from relevant academics and professionals who are sympathetic to the cause?
If you would like to be kept in the loop about opportunities to support these efforts, please respond to this thread voicing your interest. Notifications about upcoming NSNS-NYC meet-ups will then be sent to your forum account. (If you don't have a forum account, you can click "register" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen to create one.)
If you don't want to receive these notifications through the forum, feel free to specify how you would prefer to be contacted (e-mail, phone, etc...) and the notifications will be sent there instead.
People can also voice their interest in an e-mail and send it to me at:
nosilencenostigma@gmail.com
Notifications about upcoming meet-ups will then be sent to the e-mail address you sent the original e-mail from unless a preferred method of contact is specified.
If you would like to only be sent notifications about opportunities to participate in advocacy for the project (writing letters, signing petitions, participating in marches), simply specify this preference and you will only be sent notifications about these opportunities.
